Pet Skunk Veterinary Care

Welcome to SkunkVetCare.org, an online resource dedicated to sharing information about domestic skunk health issues. This site was started by Maria Ellis and Mary Vice (both long time skunk owners), Maria since 1984 and Mary since 2002. Sadly Mary passed away 04/27/2015. Dr.Schneider, a skunk friendly veterinarian, is serving as a veterinary consultant for the website. We all share the mission stated below and are using the contributions of other veterinarians and skunk owners to complete this “work in progress”.

SkunkVetCare.org’s mission is to address and satisfy the informational needs of the domestic skunk health care community. We carry out our mission by serving as a point of access for veterinary professionals and pet owners to comprehensive health information, reference materials and clinical databases. SkunkVetCare.org contains information on all aspects of skunk care. Our growing collection of health information is the collaborative efforts of professional veterinary resources and contributing domestic skunk owners. The information is based on experience and anectodal information. Most drugs are used “off label” in skunks, and most of the information on skunk health is not scientifically proven. Please always seek help through a veterinarian that is comfortable working with skunks and refer them to this site as a reference tool.

You can continue to help by sending in any health records, treatment plans and diagnostic test results for your skunk. Visit our contact page for information on how to submit data.
